Marriage Bureau - victoria

Your Ceremony

Ceremonies arranged through Marriage Bureau of Victoria are conducted by experienced Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrants, ensuring a professional and meaningful wedding experience.

Our celebrants create warm and respectful ceremonies that celebrate your relationship while meeting all legal requirements under Australian marriage law. Couples are also welcome to personalise their ceremony by including readings or contributions from family and friends, helping make the occasion truly memorable.

Where to start...

The experienced team at Marriage Bureau of Victoria is here to guide you through each step of the marriage process.

Once your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) has been lodged, we will help you organise a ceremony that reflects your wishes and creates a memorable occasion for you and your guests.

Our team is always happy to discuss your ideas and assist you in planning a ceremony that feels personal, relaxed and truly special.

How long will my ceremony take?

Ceremonies are usually scheduled in 30-minute time slots, which allows enough time for the legal ceremony and a relaxed celebration with your guests.

Couples may choose a simple legal ceremony with the minimum legal wording and two witnesses, or a more personalised ceremony with readings, vows or other meaningful elements. Witnesses can also be arranged if required.

For couples planning a larger micro-wedding celebration with up to 40 guests, extended ceremony bookings are available. These typically allow up to one hour, giving your celebrant additional time to personalise the ceremony and create a memorable experience for you and your guests.

Personalised Ceremonies That Meet Legal Requirements

All ceremonies are conducted by experienced Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrants, ensuring the wedding complies fully with Australian marriage law while still reflecting your personal style.

While certain legal words must be included, couples are welcome to personalise their ceremony by writing their own vows, selecting poems or readings, or inviting family and friends to participate in the ceremony.

Our celebrants will guide you through the legal elements while helping create a warm, meaningful and memorable wedding ceremony.

Ceremony Pricing

Registry-style wedding ceremonies typically start from under $300, which includes the use of the elegant Melbourne Marriage Registry ceremony room, the celebrant, and the preparation of all legal paperwork required for the ceremony.

The ceremony room comfortably accommodates from two witnesses up to around 40 guests, and there is no additional charge for the use of the room during your booked ceremony time.

Longer ceremonies or after-hours bookings may attract additional charges, and extended ceremony times must be arranged in advance.

Please note that the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) lodgement fee is separate.

For full details of ceremony pricing and options, please refer to the Price Guide.

SPOUSE VISA

Many couples choose to marry in Australia while preparing a Partner Visa or Spouse Visa application. Marriage Bureau of Victoria regularly assists couples who need a legally recognised marriage as part of their visa pathway.

Our team can guide you through lodging your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) and arranging a legally compliant ceremony conducted by an authorised Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrant.

Once the NOIM has been lodged, celebrants from Marriage Victoria are also able to provide Visa Support Letters, which many couples require for their Partner Visa or Prospective Marriage Visa documentation.

Because we work with many international couples, our team understands the importance of ensuring that all paperwork and ceremony requirements are handled correctly and efficiently.

When Australia legalised same-sex marriage in 2017, we were proud to immediately celebrate with couples who had been waiting for the opportunity to legally marry here. Today, we continue to welcome couples of every background and identity, creating ceremonies that are respectful, joyful and memorable.

And of course, well-behaved four-legged family members are welcome too if you would like them to be part of your special day.

If you would like help lodging your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) or arranging your ceremony, our team is always happy to assist. Call (03) 9820 1119 to speak with us or to receive a simple guide to getting married through Marriage Bureau of Victoria.

Many couples travel to Melbourne to legally marry in Victoria, and Marriage Bureau of Victoria regularly assists international couples who wish to hold a simple registry-style ceremony while visiting Australia.

Before a marriage can legally take place, couples must complete and sign a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) form. When the form is signed outside Australia, there are specific requirements regarding who can witness the document.

Our team can guide overseas couples through the process and explain the steps required to ensure the paperwork is correctly completed before arriving in Melbourne for the ceremony.
