Marriage Bureau - victoria

Same sex marriage

Marriage Bureau of Victoria proudly welcomes all couples who choose to celebrate their marriage with us. Our registry-style ceremonies are designed to be inclusive, relaxed and meaningful, and we have had the privilege of marrying couples from many different countries and communities over many years. Everyone is welcome here, and our goal is simple: to provide a warm, supportive environment where you can celebrate your commitment with the people who matter most. Our ceremony rooms in South Yarra offer a beautiful and comfortable setting for intimate registry weddings. The space features polished floorboards, striking artwork and sculpture throughout the rooms, and a classic baby grand piano that friends or family members are welcome to play if you would like to include live music as part of your ceremony. Couples often tell us they love the relaxed atmosphere of the space, where they can celebrate with their guests in a way that feels natural and personal. Pets are also welcome to attend your ceremony, because we know that for many couples their four-legged family members are an important part of the day.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

Marriage Bureau of Victoria was created with the belief that every couple deserves a welcoming and respectful place to celebrate their marriage. Our private registry service was established as an alternative ceremony option for couples seeking a personal, elegant and accessible wedding experience in Melbourne. When marriage equality became law in Australia in December 2017, it marked an important moment for many couples who had been waiting for their relationships to be legally recognised. Since then we have been honoured to conduct ceremonies for many LGBTQIA+ couples and their families. Today we continue that commitment by ensuring that every couple who walks through our doors feels respected, supported and celebrated on their wedding day.

Our Team are here to help!

Our experienced celebrants are always happy to assist you with the process of getting married in Australia. The first step is lodging a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) with an authorised celebrant. Under Australian law, this form must be lodged at least one month before the wedding date and no more than 18 months in advance. Once your NOIM has been completed and lodged, you can then confirm the date and time of your ceremony. Many couples choose to lodge their paperwork with us and schedule their ceremony exactly one month later. If you would like assistance with the paperwork or would like a step-by-step explanation of the process, please contact our team. We are always happy to answer questions and guide you through the requirements. To arrange an appointment or speak with someone directly, call (03) 9820 1119.
