LEGAL REGISTRATION OF YOUR MARRIAGE

On the day of your ceremony you will receive a Commemorative Party Marriage Certificate as a record of your wedding.

After the ceremony, your Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrant is responsible for completing the legal registration of the marriage. The documents signed during the ceremony are submitted electronically through the official government portal to the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM).

Once the registration has been successfully lodged, a registration confirmation number will be issued. From this point onward, any official requests relating to your marriage record are handled directly through the Victorian BDM office.

The official legal Marriage Certificate can then be ordered through Births, Deaths and Marriages. This is the certificate required for matters such as name changes, identification updates, and immigration or visa applications. You can order this certificate online using the link provided below.
